The main objective of this group has been research in the areas of philosophy of physics and philosophy of biology in order to appreciate how ours ideas of what is a science and how they relate to other cultural territories have been changing. Two points became, since 2007, central to us: to rethink biology, as a possible new model of what is a science (different from the one that physics has inspired) and as a connected question, how epistemic and ethical virtues are being connected in present investigation in the biological arenas. Recent collaboration with scientists from molecular biology and the present work of one of the members in the fields of ethics and clinical investigation in hospitals will be the concrete support for that purpose.
The group also includes the project “Secrecy and Memory in the age of information” (Information and communication, History, Literature, Sociology research Institutes from the Faculdade de Letras, U.P.)
