Testimonies of Silence
The aim of this project is the creation of a singular archive about the experience of the limit situation of civil war in the Portuguese-speaking African countries (specifically in Angola, Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau). For this the notions of testimony and archive will be thought in their articulation with the notions of history, memory, forgetfulness, body, gesture, sense, silence, mutism, resistance and insubmission.
This investigation will be developed in two lines: a) the elaboration of a historical register organized from collected documents (writings, photographs, objects) about these events; b) the recreation of a historical memory from the fiction of the experience of each individual [of each individual experience], thinking artistic creation as a specific form of testimony, through which a concrete singularity is configured.
The work of localization, organization, preservation and production of documental materials, on the one hand, and the artistic gesture, on the other, will constitute modes of thinking the possibility of translating an untranslatable event.
Objectives

To think the experience of the limit situation of civil war in the singular context of Portuguese-speaking African countries through the collection of documental material and artistic creation.

To think the notion of archive: a) through the work of historical register and documental organization; b) through the possibility of creating a historical memory from the singular experience of each individual.

To elaborate a singular archive of civil war memories, specifically in the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP), through the collection of different materials and registers of those events.

To conceive artistic creation as a form of testimony.

To perspectivate the notion of absence through the articulation of the notions of body, memory, forgetfulness, silence and gesture.

To think the possibility of translating a limit event like the civil war though the articulation between artistic creation and philosophical thought.
Testemunhos do Silêncio
Através deste projecto pretende-se elaborar um arquivo singular sobre a experiência da situação limite de guerra civil nos Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa (especificamente em Angola, Moçambique e Guiné). Para tal, procurar-se-á pensar as noções de testemunho e de arquivo a partir da articulação entre as noções de história, memória, esquecimento, corpo, gesto, sentido, silêncio, mutismo, resistência e insubmissão.
Esta investigação desenvolver-se-á em duas linhas: a) elaboração de um registo histórico organizado a partir de documentos recolhidos (escritos, fotografias, objectos) sobre esses acontecimentos; b) recriação de uma memória histórica a partir da ficção do que foi experienciado por cada indivíduo, pensando a criação artística como uma forma específica de testemunho, através da qual se configura uma concreta singularidade.
O trabalho de localização, organização, preservação e produção de materiais documentais, por um lado, e o gesto artístico, por outro, constituirão modos de pensar a possibilidade de traduzir um acontecimento sem tradução.
Objectivos

Pensar a experiência da situação limite da guerra civil no contexto singular dos Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa através da recolha de material documental e da criação artística.

Pensar a noção de arquivo: a) através do trabalho de registo histórico e organização de documentos; b) através da possibilidade de criação de uma memória histórica a partir da experiência singular de cada indivíduo.

Elaborar um arquivo singular das memórias da guerra civil, especificamente nos Países africanos de língua oficial portuguesa (PALOP), através da recolha de diferentes materiais e registos desses acontecimentos.

Conceber a criação artística como uma forma de testemunho.

Perspectivar a noção de ausência através da articulação das noções de corpo, memória, esquecimento, silêncio e gesto.

Pensar a possibilidade de tradução de um acontecimento limite como a guerra civil através da articulação entre a criação artística e o pensamento filosófico.
